At first glance, Woodland Nursery is a quiet moment between a doe and her fawn. Look a little longer, though, and the woods begin to come alive. A fox, raccoon, woodpecker, and other small details are tucked throughout the scene, rewarding those who stop to take a closer look.
Drawn entirely in graphite, Woodland Nursery was the original study for a larger oil painting later sold in Jackson Hole. Each layer of the forest was built with careful attention to texture, light, and the wildlife hidden within it.
